Choose for yourself this once in a lifetime experience - hiking in the Indian Himalayas. On this trip you can also go rafting on the Ganges and visit the ashram which is better known as The Beatles ashram. The holiday lasts 12 days and half of the time is spent enjoying the guided cultural and hiking excursion.

 

You do not need to go on the journey alone, although you do get all the peace and quiet you need. Your guide Anne will meet you at the airport and will share the experience with you.

 

It may be that you are wondering whether you are the right person to climb the Himalayan mountains? You are, if you are in good condition and have a sense of adventure, well worn hiking boots and a desire to see the world. The hiking is made easy, you just need to carry your own water bottle and camera. All the rest is taken care of for you.

 

The unique six day guided cultural and hiking excursion is done by bus and on foot through the local villages and beautiful landscapes. On the way to the top we stop to enjoy one of India's most famous Shiva temples, Kedarnath, and its thousand-year atmosphere. The temple is located about 3680 meters above sea level. The hiking culminates in the Indian Himalayan mountain range (approx. 4000 m) on the top of Chandrashilla. From Chandrashilla we have a staggering view of the Himalayas and India's second highest mountain Nanda Devi (7817 m).

 

When rafting in the rapids of the Ganges you'll also experience nature's incredible drama and the power of the holy river. On the other hand the peace of the ashram and the nature offer a serene atmosphere in which you can relax and quieten down. There are several different routes to choose from. Always a few hours long rafting to the many day with overnight stays in tents.

ADVENTURE TREK

Trek description

 

This six day guided cultural trek goes through local villages and beautiful sceneries in the Indian Himalayas. The climax of the trek is the peak Chandrashila at an altitude of about 4000m. On our way there we will stop at India's highest Shiva temple, the thousand year old Kedarnath. The route has been classified as easy and part of it is done by car. On the trek we use good local guides and mules so all you need to carry are your camera and water bottle.

 

In November the temperature stays above +10C during the day. Nights are cold and we will be well prepared with warm sleeping bags. A local company and its guides will take care of us and practical matters such as accomodation, food and toilets.

 

1st day

After breakfast we will travel from Rishikesh towards the mountains through small atmospheric villages. We will make a stop in historical Devprayag at the source of the Ganga River. From here we will continue our cultural journey to Rudraprayag where we will stay the night in a guest house.

2nd day

From Rudraprayag we will drive to Ukhimath to an altitude of 1317m. This is where Lord Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar are worshipped in the winters when the main temple in Kedarnath is closed. Our journey then continues to Sari, where the actual trekking begins. We will hike a couple of hours to the shore of beautiful Lake Deoria Tal at about 2500m. We will sleep in tents and as the morning arises we will be able to see the majestic summit of Mount Chaukhamba (7138m).

3rd day

Our journey continues up to Chopta, which is also known as mini Switzerland, six hours along an easy road up to an altitude of about 3000m. We will stay the night in tents.

 

4th day

On the fourth day we will trek to Tungnath where India's highest Shiva temple, the over 1000 year old Lord Shiva temple Kedarnath, is situated. From here we will trek 1,5km more to the peak of Chandrashila at an altitude of about 4000m. From the peak, which is also known as the meditation site of Lord Rama, we can see the Nanda Devi, the second highest peak of the Indian Himalayas (7916m). After admiring the beautiful view we will return to Chopta and stay in tents.

5th day

From Chopta we will drive to Kartik Swami temple (3050m), which is situated among the clouds and has a gorgeous 360 degree view. The temple has been dedicated to Lord Shiva's oldest son Kartkeya. From beautiful Garhwal Himalaya we will walk 3km back to the road, drive about 3hrs and stay at Shivanandi Motel.

6th day

After a relaxed morning and breakfast we will return to Rishikesh, where we will arrive latest in the evening.
